Sound
Having parents who were both professional musicians for periods of their lives meant a house often filled with popular jazz melodies, on radio, records or live. My mother sang and my father played trumpet. Both chose to raise a family with three children, which practically meant for them the end of touring and dedication to promising musical careers. Nevertheless, each of my sisters and I learned an instrument. At first I learned the snare drum, later played trumpet, followed by a return to drum set, rock n roll and eventually playing in some small groups, more recently jazz trios. In the last decade or so I have taken a keen interest in improvisational sound and percussion. I am influenced by the work of Rakalam Bob Moses, Paul Motian and numerous other drummers and non-drummers, past and present, not to mention squeaking doors, rain, wind and collapsing structures. Below are several examples, solo and with others. The world of sound/music can be as evocative and impactful to me as the visual world.
